Monday Comic Corner – Hiiiiya!

DaveyJanuary 7th, 2013 by Davey

Corpse Run Comics always has a great Zelda comic, and this week we have a comic simply titled “Hiiiiya”. If you’ve played Ocarina of Time even once, that word will probably bring back fond memories of the first game to give Link voice characterization. But this comic isn’t a scene from Ocarina of Time, and you’ve probably already figured that out. Do you know what game it’s from? To find out and read the full comic, hit the jump!

Gruesome? Perhaps. Still hilarious? Of course.

Of course this comic is inspired by the captured monkeys quest in Twilight Princess. Where else could you find a monkey with a rose in its head?

I think this fits in the category of “if video games were more realistic”. In this universe, Link needs a bit more training with that Master Sword and he’s got to start being more careful with what that sharp blade comes in contact with. It’s dangerous to go alone, but it’s also dangerous to go on an adventure with Link.

Can you think of some other places in the Zelda series where Link could do with some more training? Tell us in the comments!

Doesn’t he get the Hero’s Tunic after he saves them?

    • soul

      correct

    • Guy

      Yeh, it’s a bit accurate…

  • The Unicorn Hanger-Outer

BWAHAHAHA!!! Ohmygosh! Twilight Princess! Where the monkey gets ccaptured with Beth! I sorta felt nervous swinging my sword around that cage too! But… This comic rocks!

    • Anonymous

      It was actually Talo…

  • KingLink

i don’t remember Beth in the cage

    • soul

Beth has blonde hair, wears a dress, and doesn’t have a bandana on her head.
Now look at the comic again.

  • http://www.facebook.com/john.lindes John Lindes

doesn’t link have the wooden sword when he saves beth and the monkey?

    • Cmaster

I don’t think that it would have made a difference. LoL

      • Brandikins11

Well, let’s see. A piece of wood in comparison to a sharp steel blade…yeah no difference would have been seen.

        • soul

correction: a SHARP piece of wood in comparison to a sharp steel blade

          • Brandikins11

Regardless, the steel is still sharper.

          • Guest

Well, Link didn’t have the green clothes by then if you really want to question this comic :P

          • http://axlethebeast.com/ Axle the Beast

Zelda also never shows blood, so there’s that. =P

          • The Unicorn Hanger-Outer

Good way to finish this conversation Axle. :P

          • http://youtube.com/bastiantime bastian

Except of course in the original version of Ocarina of Time wherein Ganondorf coughs up blood. :D

          • Guy

It is green, so you can;t proof it is blood
(even though it was red in the beta, and blood is the only thing it would make sense to be)

          • ralphpotato

It was red until version 1.0.2. Many people own N64 copies (not beta) of Ocarina of Time (1.0.1) that had red blood.

This first version also had chanting in the fire temple and the Gerudo symbol closely resembled the star and crescent from Islam.

          • Guy

I know I was technically wrong, but since they had releases after you can consider previous versions ‘beta.’ I stated what I did to make it quicker, and too avoid confusion (which obviously didn’t happen, :P )

          • Linkfan99

It is obvious it’s blood, as it’s red in the first version. They changed it assuming people would think it’s green blood.

          • Guy

Did u read the whole comment? That is my opinion as well.

          • Chuchu123

            I thought he barfed broccoli…

          • Guy

And blood doesn’t typically spurt up…

          • AgeOfGlenn

Weren’t there, like, puddles of blood inside the well? I might be wrong, but I remember it like that…

          • Zelda is the Bomb!!!

            Twilight Princess

          • Omega

not neciserily, you can make wood just as sharp, the only thing is: it won’t retain it’s shape and become blunt as soon as you use it

          • Linkfan99

Not if the wood sword is newly sharpened, and the steel has been worn down…

          • Brandikins11

Okay, I make a simple comparison and you people are all like, no the steel can be worn down and the wood can be new, or the wood can be sharpened, etc. It’s a simple comment, not a political topic.

          • Guy

Wood, because it splinters and is soft, it could not be sharpened enough to be even compared to steel in terms of sharpness.

          • Vink

Depends on the wood used and how the wooden was made in the first place. The person who made the wooden sword presumably Rusl (Colin’s Dad) would of used strong wood, shaped the sword differently to a normal sword to give it more strength, the sword then would be sharpened then probably fire hardened for durability and maybe varnish was applied to stop splinters and keep the wood hard.

It still would be weaker in sharpness compared to metal but in terms of the swords point, it could deal a lot of damage.

          • Guy

            I agree

          • Linkfan99

It could easily be as sharp as steel, but it wouldn’t cut as well. It could EASILY be as sharp.

        • Emma Mix

Dude anything that can chop through solid wood can behead someone– or at least partially… (*cough* NEARLY HEADLESS NICK *cough*)

    • Vink

It wasn’t Beth in the cage lol, It was Talo.

    • spidertiger7

no you give it to some kids in the village i think before you save them preety sure

    • Zelda is the Bomb!!!

      it’s Talo

  • JononTomin

It’s their fault for not ducking :P

    • Guy

Not necessarily, because he acted with out warning, and killing them is not what they asked link to do.

      ,

      • Linkfan99

        Good grief, it’s a joke…

    • itsameluigi1290

Well, it’s a monkey. You can’t duck if you’re a monkey, because ducks have wings.

  • Dark Majora

    never played tp uuuuuggggghhhhhhh

    • Emma Mix

      EEEEKKK!

  • http://medlismessages.blogspot.com/ Heroine of Time

…Not only is this comic possess inaccuracies (steel sword when he should have the wooden, Hero’s clothes ahead of time), but it’s a bit too violent for my tastes.

Eh, whatever. Some people obviously like it.

    • Cmaster

      Its just gross XP

    • Emma Mix

Ummmmmm wow it’s just a joke you know, lol– comics are supposed to be COMICal.

      • http://medlismessages.blogspot.com/ Heroine of Time

As I said, from my point of view, this wasn’t comical. I’m fully aware that it was supposed to be funny. But whenever I see blood and guts it tends to ruin the mood for me. :/

        • Mich

are u like 10 or something?

          • Brett

You don’t have to be a child to be squeamish with blood. It’s childish to even say that.

          • Anonymous

No, we’re mature, sane, responsible people, and know what is acceptable in public. While most of us play games for the action, we don’t do, show, over-exaggerate, or joke about what occurs that isn’t what we would do in public.

While we understand the humor of the comic, we see it as a darker shade of humor that only those who would do such a thing would find funny enough to laugh out loud at. We also see something that anybody can view. For example, how would you judge a person that tells or laughs at a potty joke? Can you imagine what people may think if they only see the second and third panel, or don’t know the context of the comic?

          • Sometimes

She sure is not the only one, and not finding this comic funny at all has nothing to do with age. I also don’t like videogames which are really violent or spill a lot of blood. (That’s why I never touched a shooter in my life)
Kids are getting used to more violent games these days, so I’m glad that there are still games like Zelda. Maybe you’re the one who’s 10 for not respecting her opinion.

          • Guy

            r U like 10 or something?

        • http://lulles.deviantart.com/ lulles

          I feel the same.

          • Guy

            Me too

          • Thing

            Me three

          • Guy

Im not trying to offend you in any way, but this post Is 3 months old

        • guest-Navi’s sister

          same here

        • Emma Mix

Um… Okidokey, I guess I’m just… Yeah what can I say, most of my friends are guys :P

    • itsameluigi1290

I usually only get squeamish from live action violence, like The Hunger Games (I actually had to walk outside a bit after the “initial bloodbath”), but this was a bit much for me too.

      • Linkfan99

But… I loved that movie! (And the books)

  • http://www.facebook.com/mattielprup Mattie Kennedy

you know i tried rolling into that cage like 6 times before slicing it because i didn’t want to slice them…

    • http://www.facebook.com/mattielprup Mattie Kennedy

then i realized i was holding a wooden sword and i figured it out…

      • itsameluigi1290

Dang, two comments in a row with that many votes up? Nice!

  • baileygirl99

huh. I never thought of this possibility. EWWWWW.

  • RubyDragonCat

Yeah this is unaccurate, at this point, wooden sword and no hero’s clothes.

    • soul

      inaccurate*
      “unaccurate” isn’t a word

      • Omega

some people aren’t native speakers, the point is that you understand them, please stop the grammar/spelling lessons, unless you don’t get it

    • Linkfan99

      *cough* JOKE *cough*

  • Awesome

Lol is it just me or does anyone else think the artist made Link looks like he has breasts? I’m just saying…he’s sticking his chest out, has a rather slim waist, and his butt seems to be very large. Link looks enough like a girl with his tights on without actually drawing him as one lol

    • Cmaster

      Perv.

      • Awesome

Lol I guess I am a bit. Just thought it was interesting in the way the artist decided to depict him

      • Linkfan99

        PERVERTABERT!!!
        (inside joke…)

  • linkypete

He had a wooden sword, so it would actually probably just give them a concussion and a few splinters.

  • Anonymous

The fact that it wasn’t even mentioned that it might be inappropriate for younger views just shows on how low the standards have become for the news of this site.

And, it’s Talo in the cage…not Beth. Oh, and yes it is fairly inaccurate since he still has the Ordon clothes and wooden sword when this happens.

    • Anonymous

      *Viewers.

    • Emma Mix

Pathetic. Don’t call the standards low! The only person this would freak out would be a 132 year old lady.

    • http://youtube.com/bastiantime bastian

I’m not really sure that it could be considered inappropriate. Yes, it has blood and guts, but they’re not meant to look realistic, it’s comedy. It might not be your cup of tea, but it’s not R rated. It’s not even PG-13 rated. Maybe PG.

      • itsameluigi1290

Eh, PG-13 might be right. Then again, the old Indiana Jones films were PG. I guess it depends on your point of view. (For example, I see it as PG-13)

        • ralphpotato

The old Indiana Jones movies were PG because PG-13 didn’t exist. Prior to 1984, movies were PG or R, and Steven Spielberg suggested a middle rating because a lot of movies weren’t really suited for smaller children, but also didn’t deserve an R rating. If the original movies were re-rated they might be rated PG-13.

          • itsameluigi1290

Ohhh, right. Cool story bro XD But seriously, thanks, I totally forgot about that.

  • Kablamogroup

Yeah, my mind kind of went to this when I played the first time. Everytime I cut the cage to set Talo and that monkey free, I always wonder why I don’t cut the tops of their heads off, but then I remember that it’s a video game.

    • Omega

If you pay close attention they duck

  • Serbaayuu

Ha, it’s funny because he brutally killed them, and that’s not something Link would normally do.

    What tripe.

    • Hero of Time

      So true, dude.

  • Mister

Geeze, complaining too much about the sword and clothes. Some people just cant take a joke.

    • Omega

some people don’t think it’s that funny

  • Jacob Tasiemski

    HAHA! love it!

  • http://www.facebook.com/jordan.dipalma Jordan DiPalma

“Don’t you think we should duck before you cut through the cage, just in case?”
“Nonsense. You guys are good NPCs, I couldn’t hurt you if I tried. Now hold still, my sword may tickle as it passes harmlessly through you…”

  • itsameluigi1290

Ewwwwwwwww. I’M ALLERGIC TO BLOOD! *Dies* But seriously, it makes sense. Why don’t the stupid kid and monkey duck?

    • Ratchet25

They know about their NPC powers

      • itsameluigi1290

        Oh yeah, I forgot.

    • Andrew

Because it’s a stupid kid and a monkey.

  • Omega

just two thing, in TP Link uses a wooden sword, and at that point he is in his own clothes-not the hero’ tunic

  • Andrew

Relax, as mentioned in some other posts, they are just supposed to be funny. Not accurate, politically correct, or none of that. I for one found it a little tasteless; admittedly, but in no way straight up “wrong to create.”

  • Pickleslkw

Loling I always thought about this when I was at this part :)

  • Vink

This is wrong, Link had the wooden sword, not the master sword.

    • Ian

He didn’t have the master sword in the comic. He had the Ordon sword.

  • http://twitter.com/ThomaseDurnad Thomas Durand

Well I never liked them anyways

  • pizzaman

    Ew

  • http://twitter.com/TID3000 George Costas

the kid looks like a spanish girl, it’s a boy!

  • Zelda is the Bomb!!!

Yay! That little brat Talo is dead!
DING DONG THE BRAT IS DEAD!!! :D
