  • baileygirl99

    That was cool.

  • Mister

The info about the game originally being both in a past and futuristic setting is interesting. Especially so when you think about Skyward Sword. It’s like they are sneakily implementing and testing out their original ideas for the original game to see if it would have worked overall.

I knew it!! I KNEW Link was based on Peter Pan! I noticed all the similarities. :P

“Mario should be linear and Zelda should be definitely opposite.” WHAT HAPPENED SINCE THEN!?!? I’ve SKIPPED Mario worlds and levels, took on different places in different orders, completed Super Mario Galaxy levels before their star appeared on the planet’s menu, etc. Meanwhile, current Zelda games FORCED me to take the same path, with little deviation for side quests.

    • Demise

      Agree with you, I do.

The only Zelda games that let you re-order dungeons are those with completely open fields and no dependency on other dungeon items. So far, few games truly have that ability.

There were a few places in the original 2 games that needed items from a previous dungeon. While it was open field and open dungeon, there was some sense of multi-branch linearity, where 1 had to come after another.

A similar thing was done in Ocarina of Time. However, there was a good example of optional dungeon re-ordering as well. During the Master Quest, when I had difficulties lighting the torches in the beginning of the Fire Temple, I went to the Water Temple to get the Fire Arrows.

Skyward Sword had a brief open-world exploration for 3 dungeons. This could be seen as block dungeons, but I’ll have to double-check item dependency. Block Dungeons, in this case, means that they can be reached and done in any order, without depending on another’s item, and all of them must be done before more dungeons are available.

Aside from those 4 games, are there any games that truly let you reach all the dungeons at the beginning, or do them either in any order or in blocks?

If Nintendo wants to step up its game, they should make block dungeons at least. If we want to make an example of a possibility of Block Dungeons. let’s change up Twilight Princess a little. The first dungeon, the Forest, is by itself. However, the Goron and Zora dungoens would be in a Block, with the only requirements between the two being that both Twili barriers have to be down in order to save Prince Ralis and get both the Water Bombs and the Zora Tunic. At this point, Zelda would recognize the magic stone of Link’s to be Ganon’s Triforce magic. Arbiter’s Grounds comes next, but Zant confirm’s Ganon there and reveals he can’t be killed as long as Ganon lives. He’ll take a piece of Midna’s Helmet, throw it though the Mirror, breaks the mirror, and teleports himself and the pieces away. The dungeon with the 3 pieces of the Twilight Mirror are Blocked together. With both the Mirror and the Helmet complete again, Ganon and Zant are then blocked together, with different difficulties and moves depending on which order you defeat them in.

What i heard is that they want to change that in Zelda Wii u :)

  • PRDX4

Anyone who thinks Nintendo is racist is utterly and incomprehendably stupid. The End.

    • Tehlul

Agreed. It’s usually a bunch of soccer moms that complain about that kind of stuff. It wasn’t till now that I made the connection between the skull kids and the black stereotype, and I likely never would’ve. Same for Jinx.

      • PRDX4

Jynx was actually based the closest on a JAPANESE deity. I don’t know why Nintendo just can’t come out and say this, but alas we don’t know. Plus, the chants in the Fire Temple or any other symbolism that looks or sounds like other religions weren’t even used to offend people. It’s not like the chants say, “Muslims are stupid”, and stuff.

        • rjhewgyrfu

I’ve even seen people say that they were muslims and liked the original, or that they showed it to a muslim fiend who also liked them…

As for the Skull Kid, if I was black I might get offended about them changing it. Imagine if he had been white with thin lips and a slim nose and all that. And the Nintendo changed it because it was “racist to white people”. That would be annoying, wouldn’t it?

          • zeldadood64

im muslim and i like the original

  • JeredenDonnar

I must have the original release of OoT because I could swear that the fire temple had the the islamic chant and that revised Mirror sheild doesn’t look like the mirror sheild I have. And the skull kid is definetly a being void of form or substance, “living shadow”. The scarecrow thing has another sort of sense to it, though.

  • Demise

We all know the Triforce was supposed to be chips.

    Computer chips, that is.

  • theneslink

Well now I really don’t have a reason to be pissed at the ignorant fools in 8th grade for calling me Peter Pan while dressed as Link, considering he was based off of him, but I still hate that they didn’t know who Link was.

  • MiniJen

Even though Myamoto himself has said that Link is based no Peter Pan, I still begrudge that fact… Something about Peter Pan strikes me as nerdy, and nowhere near as awesome of a hero as Link is… I don’t know. Their designs are similar, and there are parallels between Navi/Tatl and Tinker Bell, but the resemblance stops there. Well, either way, these are still some interesting facts! (though i did know most of them already)

Its funny how much you would never know if you didnt watch this video. I already knew about some of the things though like ALttP title and the chant in the fire temple.

Jinx was actually copied off a Japanese style of clothes and makeup, but America still thinks it’s racist. Can’t really defend Skull Kid.

    • PRDX4

Incorrect actually. Jynx was based off a Japanese deity (which I guess could be a style of dress) but same idea. Why can’t the Big N just say this? I actually like the new look of Skull Kid anyway so I don’t really want to defend him. :)

hey but us Muslims don’t use the symbol as a SYMBOL. I mean okay some Muslim countries use it in their flag but it’s really just means when the lunar month of Ramadan starts, and our Prophet didn’t make this symbol. It is not like how other religions use symbols to define themselves. Islam is not about the moon. And yes we do use it on the top of the mosque but that is a Turkish decoration when the Turks were Muslims (they still are)
Islam means peace (literally) so the crescent moon has nothing to do with faith, meaning, or the pillars of Islam.
Some Muslims think it is the symbol of Islam, but it is not.
