Zelda Fanart Spotlight – The Great Flood

KnowleeDecember 1st, 2012 by Knowlee

Today’s Fanart Spotlight is on deviantART artist Gabriela-Birchal‘s Wind Waker fanart, “The great flood“. This fanart depicts the moment where the gods of Hyrule are flooding it to prevent Ganondorf from controlling the land. The King of Hyrule can be seen to the bottom left touching the Triforce, perhaps wishing for Hyrule to be flooded. Ships can also be seen floating atop the waves that are slowly engulfing the majestic land. The water that is falling onto the land is pouring from the sky and in the background one can see other areas of Hyrule that are slowly being covered and surrounded by the falling water.

This marks the beginning of the end of a truly great and powerful land.

I’ve seen a few depictions of this particular scene and out of those this one is one of my favorites. The colors and dramatic lighting that are used in this piece help to show the seriousness of the situation. This is a beautiful piece of fanart.

The artist has other Zelda-related fanart located in their gallery. Please go give it a look and let them know what you thought of this. Also please let us know in the comments section below.

Stay tuned for the next Zelda Fanart Spotlight! Until then!

Beautyful! Bravo! I’ve never played Wind Waker, but this is such an amazing piece!

    • DarkAnimat

you should play it, its awesome.

    • Linkfan99

If you like a grand sense of exploration, then you should play it!

    • Waker of Winds

      its the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • The Hylian Monolith

You have been told this…but play it! I feel your pain, I’ve played both PH and ST several times through, and 100%ed ST, but I’ve never played WW… Well, it’s almost Christmas!

      • Dart

I am in a similar place. While I have seen a video walkthrough, I have never played WW. Have beaten PH 100%, and only need one train part to 100% ST. Have been trying to get Ruto Crowns for it for close to two years now!

        • The Hylian Monolith

Exactly. I only watch ZD wlakthroughs, though, and there isn’t one for WW. (hint Axle hint) But as a result, I have “played” OoT, SS, and MM.

I 100%ed ST a long tiem ago-it was the first Zelda game I finished, heck, it was the first I cleared the first temple on(Monkeys leever the helmasaur out of me). I finished PH maybe four months ago, but I haven’t played it recently. I’m doing a three-heart run on both.

      • Dart

This was my post, but it says it is The Hylian Monolith’s? Hopefully this will post as me, Dart.

        • The Hylian Monolith

What? Do you mean tah you commented something similar to this? I know for a fact taht I typedd this. Sorry fr being repetetive fi that’s teh case, Dart. OuuO

          • Dart

That was supposed to be under my comment “I am in a similar place…”. When I first typed it, it showed up in your name. Why the one above showed up here, or why I needed to type it in the first place is a mystery, but now all my posts are in my name and your posts are in your name. Comments had a glitch it seems. Having a tablet get on the internet seems to create a lot of glitches.

          • The Hylian Monolith

Hm. That’s odd. Well, there’s a glitch to make King Dodongo light blue. They’re everywhere. But it’s odd that it was my username. . .

      • MSspirit

Hoping I can get it! Although I’ve almost finished ST, and I’ve almost 100% TP!

  • Tehlul

    Daphne’s Nohansen Hyrule…
Possibly the best in any Zelda game

    • The Hylian Monolith

I agree, WW as and still is amazing, but…
Nazi_Monolith. It’s spelled Daphnes, there isn’t an apostrophe. That would mean that Daphne owns King Nohansen Hyrule.

  • ninetales

hum i’m lost….is this suppose to represent the begining legend where the triforce floods the land or the end when the king breaks hyrule seal so it is swallowed by the great sea…because i don’t remember the intro saying it was the king who has done that…

    • Waker of Winds

      its the ending

    • Bubbles7689

The beginning. It says so on her page, but you can also tell because the world is being flooded from the sky, not the underwater seal being broken and the surface of the ocean filling it in

  • Cucco Link

    The colors look beautiful!

  • itsameluigi1290

    I have to admit, the first time I saw that part (At the end of the game, not the part depicted in this picture), I got teary eyed ;_;

  • pjsmoulder

    I like it!

  • MiniJen

Daphnes is such a boss :D

    • Watch_Dog

      He is King!
(A Boss is nothing, compared to a King)

  • Waker of Winds

excellent ive seen few scenes of this amazing!!!!

  • pickleslkw

Makes me sad, knowing that the original Hyrule is now at the bottom of a great ocean. ;_; But I suppose this means a new story can now be unfolded… Very nice picture!

    • SuperMario2700

That the beauty of the split timeline…hyrule very much still exists just in a different path

  • baileygirl99

That’s beautiful! And sad. It’s really great work. Bravo!

  • IMFWeirdo

I’d love to see a Zelda game that ends with the Flood…it would be so dramatic and emotional… although it probably wouldn’t make a ton of sense, it would have to be inbetween OoT (adult) and Wind Waker

  • Zelda4Life

Based on that picture, it must have been hard for the refugees to get to the top of those mountains. They’re a little steep… great artwork by the way.

  • Sage of Winds

A lot of people say that Wind Waker is a dark game, but it’s not. Sure, the fact that a once flourishing, golden kingdom is buried under the waves is sad, but the destruction of the old Hyrule will allow a new kingdom to rise. The game is hopeful, with just a hint of melancholy in it. This fanart perfectly captures the essence of that “hope.”
