Zelda Fanart Spotlight – The Time Has Come

KnowleeNovember 24th, 2012 by Knowlee

Today’s Zelda Fanart Spotlight is on deviantART artist, The-Silver-Flame‘s Ocarina of Time fanart, “The Time Has Come“. This fanart depicts an area that appears twice in the game. First it appears in Link’s dream sequence at the very beginning and then later on once Link has acquired all of the spiritual stones and is headed to see Princess Zelda.

The area that is depicted is the entrance to Hyrule Castle Town. The area around here is usually bright, cheery, and peaceful but as with both times this scene appears, Ganondorf has finally made his move to conquer Hyrule and he will soon appear on his horse as he is in pursuit of the fleeing Princess Zelda and Impa.

The scene is shown exactly how I remember it being in the game. The scene perfectly shows that something horrible is going down and that Hyrule isn’t going to be the same place anymore. I love the colors that the artist used to create the scene. It helps make it come to life and lets you truly feel the impending doom that is about to take place.

The artist has other Zelda-related fanart located in their gallery. Please go take a look and let them know what you thought of this piece. Also please let us know in the comments section below.

Stay tuned for the next Zelda Fanart Spotight! Until then!

It’s fun that after this cutscene you can go anywhere you like in the game and do whatever you want to and come back hours later to pick up the ocarina, then do whatever you want again and then go to the Temple of Time to open the door and Ganondorf will still say he followed Link to get his part of the triforce (of course he does, it’s a game). That man is patient as no other XD

“…Ganondorf will say he followed Link to get his part of the triforce”

Yeesh. Knowing me, he’ll follow Link’s character around every inch, every dungeon, every house in the entirety of Hyrule…. TWICE.And then I’ll spend ages trying to remember the song of time… Someone should make a comic of Link’s distractions.

        I saw a video before

This is great art! It looks very much like it does in the game! Good job!

At first I though that the picture was taken from the game, and I was all like: “What kind of sorcery is this!?”, it was so accurate. Great job!

    The time has come…

    SPOOOOOOOOKY.

  • The Hylian Monolith

This…This is exactly what happened… Color for color, mood for mood… Even the greass is blowing around! Was this made with real or digital artistic tools?

I’m exaggerating, but this is how it feels to me! It’s twice as good if you click on it.

Very nice. That is some amazing detail!!!

  • faror

hmmm…. while they were painting this picture of doom (witch is great by the way) i painted this. MAKAR!!!!!

I don’t usually get into the technicalities of art, but I’m wondering what material was used to create this. It looks kind of digital to me, a completely unqualified observer. If anyone knows, I’d like to hear it. It is really amazing, by the way.

    • Demise

If by digital, you mean photoshop, then probably. At least the clouds, and fog. As for 3D art, then it’s not that – the lines aren’t straight, the prespective isn’t wuite right, etc. (and with 3D modelling, everything is perfect, unless you take the time to specifically bend your lines and position it so that the persective looks crooked etc.); also, the crest on top of the gate isn’t symmetrical, and I don’t know anyone who would model every side separately just to make something which is in itself perfectly symmetrical look hand-painted. So, it’s probably doen by hand, then with clouds and fog added during compositing.

that is pretty cool, I have just got to say. It does look EXACTLY like I remember it. The way they made the gate looming up is really coo, it makes you feel small and insignificant compared to all the other dark and evil stuff going on. the fog at the sides is a nice touch, too, and the lightning really just brings it all together.

    • corgi800

I’m sorry, I can’t spell today. Cool, not coo. And I should have used proper capitalization.
