Skyward Sword Harp Replica on Etsy

JohnNovember 9th, 2012 by John

Zelda fans are awesome. You’d be hard-pressed to find a video game series which has more dedicated and faithful fan following like the Legend of Zelda does. Probably one of the best places to see the accumulation of all this love for Zelda is Etsy, where people display and sell a large variety of items. Despite the fact that a lot of these items are handmade, there are some users who are capable of producing very high quality and professional looking items using modern manufacturing techniques. One of these users who goes by the name of PerfectTommyAutomail has produced an absolutely stunning replica of Zelda’s harp from Skyward Sword. Make the jump to check it out!

The body of the harp is made from a plastic called urethane and is finished in gold with a clear coating to give it its glossy and smooth coating. It may not be made of metal like many people may imagine Zelda’s harp to be made of but there’s no denying that it’s still a highly accurate and impressive replica. I’d say that the only negative is that the harp isn’t playable – the strings are made of twisted brass which are secured with an internal frame and springs so that the strings give a little when plucked but don’t produce a sound. However this doesn’t detract from the fact that it could be used for a range of purposes; as a decorative ornament in a room, as part of a costume for a hardcore cos-player, or perhaps just as a crown jewel to any Zelda merchandise collection.

The harp is made-to-order and will set you back $200 so you may have to save up for a while, depending on your financial circumstances. The price may seem a bit steep at first but it’s simply a testament to the amount of time and effort it took to produce such a near-prefect replica.

So are you thinking of buying it? Or would you rather spend your money on other things? Tell us in the comments below!

    • Link_The_Ultimate_Chronomancer

Good, because you can’t. Didn’t you read the whole thing? “I’d say that the only negative is that the harp isn’t playable”

      • baileygirl99

Get an Ocarina instead. Cheaper, and playable.

    salt price. g-g

I made myself a replica of Zelda’s harp, and it was pretty good but not as acurat as this one. It’s really pretty XD

  • Ninty

Wow, very spot on! The gold could use some browns/yellows mixed in to look more like the game’s. I actually think the one in the game is made of a strong wood like most Lyres today.

Shut up and take my rupees

  • Goldenblade

How many incredible replicas are there on Etsy?

  • Omega

wow, I like the quality of the rep. but that’ all. I think the rest of it is lame can’t play OMG

  • Twilit Archon

Way too much for a non-working replica.

  • CourageBringsSuccess

Geez, that’s spot on! Like everyone else, I think $200 is a little steep for something that isn’t playable.. Now if it WAS, I’d say it’s about time for me to learn how to play the harp haha.

  • Twilight Gale

200 DOLLARS?!?! I made a Goddess Harp and it only cost me 15!

  • TwilightMirror11

It has a golden coating, which is pretty expensive. It makes sense.

  • Darkgreyfire

$200. That’s crazy. These people must have fallen off of skyloft and landed on their heads.

  • Heroine of Time

I was so excited at first, since my friend recently made me a Zelda cosplay and I’ve been wanting a harp–

    But it doesn’t PLAY! :(

Never mind. I won’t spent $200 on that. My friend can make me one that looks just as good out of cheaper materials. It’s very beautiful, though, and I’m sure someone more “hardcore” (and richer) than me will buy it.

I have to say, though, that even if the strings did work, there are not enough there to play the entirety of Ballad of the Goddess. It’s impossible, even if you skipped a few notes in between; if you pay attention, the game purposefully avoids showing Zelda playing the whole thing. Just saying.

You have a pretty amazing friend then. I make all of my stuff by myself, but that’s probably because my friend isn’t very artistic….

The thoughts that ran through my head:
Me: Omigoddess that’s not real. It’s too shiny and…divine-looking.
Voice 1: Yes, it is. Look closer. It’s made of plastic. It’s very shimmery plastic, but plastic nonetheless.
Me: Well, somebody went on Photobooth and used the glow thing to enhance this. Or they went on photoshop and enhanced the color intensity and hue. OR it’s fake. It does not look real, it’s way too perfect and shiny.
    Voice 2: I think it’s real.
Me…Well, even if it IS real, its not playable. I want a real harp, not a decorative item. That’s what the mask is for.
Voice 1: I thought I told you that that mask is DANGEROUS. Get rid of it, buy this harp.
Me; Are you seriously trying to convince me to spend 200 bucks I don’t have on a fake harp that won’t play?
Voice 2: That mask is creepy.
Me: I did that on purpose. Btw, it cost me about 15 dollars, it matches my color scheme, and it also matches the evil aura I want in my new room. (voices sigh at the same time)

Oh, and they’re talking about the clay Majora’s Mask replica I made;) Don’t worry, it’s evil.

Why would I worry about something that wants to kill us all?

This is too much for a harp, the other ones on etsy are not nearly as expensive as this one and look to stand out more and are the right kind of gold. My friend purchased this harp, went to con and in all the pictures it looked white, it wasn’t the camera, it was all the pictures many people took of her. The gold turned white for whatever reason and looked white on the screen. The one I have from etsy is actually gold and hand painted on $49.99 online. You can add a sound module to the one on etsy posted by lilmissyfaith, it really has been worth it for me, the quality of the harps are amazingly better than the picture displays. Check out the harps, she runs out fast.

Really you guys are complaining about the price being too steep? You know how much effort and materials go into crafting it? A lot. Plus, he is actually working on a harp that is playable. I’m not rich, so I can’t get it now, but I will eventually, if he completes it, buy his playable harp. Stop being so mean! It’s really difficult and time consuming to make such beautiful props.
