Zelda Fanart Spotlight – LEGO: Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

HachiAugust 1st, 2012 by Hachi

A few months ago, we reported on a Zelda LEGO concept on Lego.cuusoo.com that had reached 10,000 votes and would be up for consideration to become a real lego set. While DeviantART’s Wes-Talbott has created his own vision for the set; a beautiful digital painting that looks like it could pass for the cover of a Lego Ocarina of Time game.

Although like many of the Lego parodies, this does have a bit of a tongue in cheek quality to it. The evil Ganondorf is far from the intimidating figure we have all come to know almost bordering on the edge of cute, but the artist does a great job at keeping true to their character designs with an impressive amount of detail.

The quality of the art itself is beautiful. The use of shadow and light is done masterfully with the light source mostly coming from the glowing triforce in the center of the picture really creates an epic atmosphear. Navi’s turquoise glow shimmering off Link’s plastic finish is also a nice touch.

As always, don’t forget to share your thoughts on todays Fanart Spotlight in the comments below, and check out the rest of Wes-Talbott’s gallery on DeviantART.

            Think again Montross

          • link5967

Honestly, who gives a shit who’s first? Let them have their fun and get on with your day. This is something people don’t need to get their panties in a wad over.

          • triforceofepicness6636

The only reason you are first is the down votes otherwise, I posted a comment 3 minutes before you AND I didn’t brag about it :P

    • shiba inu lover

why does everyone hate me? ;(

      • http://www.facebook.com/bluecometsparklestar Bluecomet Sparklestar

        Why are you saying that?

      • BlackRaven6695

Because you said the f-word. No, not that f-word.

        • itsameluigi1290

I don’t really think saying “first” would cause people to hate other people. Would you hate me if I said first?

          • BlackRaven6695

I wouldn’t HATE you, because I’ve seen some good comments from you in the past but I would still thumbs down a comment ‘bragging’ about being ‘first’ no matter who it came from.

          • itsameluigi1290

You’ve got a point, I just felt bad for Shiba.

      • itsameluigi1290

I don’t hate you! *Gives cookie*

  • Sockomcmango

    Not bad

    Yes to LEGO set(s)!
No to a (traditional) LEGO video game! While Link is a silent hero, I’d prefer if he was the only one within every game. Also, a (traditional) LEGO video game will get rid of the sidequests, free overworld exploration, camera control, and collection of items/upgrades/heart containers. I just can’t see a Zelda game without those. IF they can make a LEGO Zelda video game without MOST those drawbacks (I can ignore a couple minor ones if they add content), I’d love it!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/James-Best/100003863840372 James Best

Actually, Lego Batman 2 is a more open game with free overworld exploration. It’s not on par with, say, Zelda, but its pretty darn close. With a few adjustments, it can become a Zelda-esque game.

      • Anonymous

I was pointing out the general differences between Zelda and LEGO. I’ve played various LEGO games on 3 different game systems. All the games I played were missing the things I mentioned. They had no sidequests; just collect money and find hidden parts. They had no overworld exploration; they were all linear (no doubling back to go another way and progress) objectives, with a central hub connecting every “mission”. Don’t get me started on ANY LEGO game’s non-existent camera control! (I know quite a few Zelda’s don’t have camera control, but I’d like it anyway). While LEGO Indiana Jones let you pick up items, you couldn’t keep them like Link could. They all had the same life points, making every boss about the same difficulty with longer battles as you progress.
Like my original post’s last sentence says, I’d LOVE a LEGO game IF they keep at least SOME of the Zelda feel I mentioned above preserved. Does that deserve a thumb down?

        • Zelda_1224

While you do make a good point, Nintendo would still put there own twist onto the game. They may even start a whole new trend in the lego videogame series. They could make an over world like zelda where it is vast and big but incorprate lego ideas such as the stud money system. There is a lot of possiblities availible if they do decide to make a Zelda Lego game which i am a big fan of.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/James-Best/100003863840372 James Best

I was referring to LEGO Batman 2. As the latest LEGO game, it’s setting a precedence for open world exploration for the series. Gotham City was an open world with a lot of sidequests and optional puzzles. Later LEGO games will follow this formula (e.g. LEGO LotR and LEGO City Undercover) and hopefully improve upon it. What I’m saying is that it’s not inconceivable that we’ll soon have LEGO game comparable to Zelda in terms of open exploration.

    • http://www.facebook.com/bluecometsparklestar Bluecomet Sparklestar

Both will ruin the point of zelda.

      • itsameluigi1290

        Nuh-uh.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Matt.Seevers Matt Seevers

If Nintendo made this it would sell AMAZINGLY.

I know game companies claim to care about the gamers, and some do but it is still all about the profit. They are motivated to make a game people want because it is a good way to get money.

  • matthew

    That’s badass!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/James-Best/100003863840372 James Best

Heh, Navi’s a stud. Who knew?

    • Drewschebag

Yeah, but (s)he’s clingy. Go figure.

    • H37I

i see what you did there.

    • itsameluigi1290

      *Goes and throws up*

      • itsameluigi1290

I HOPE EVERYONE KNEW I WAS JOKING BECAUSE I HAVE THREE DOWN VOTES EVEN THOUGH I UPVOTED JAMES BEST.
        Why am I yelling?

  • Ocarina of Time Lover

im fifteen and legos are really pricey now, but i would still buy the sets if they actually did come out, which wont happen.

  • http://www.facebook.com/kyle.clark.967 Kyle Clark

    GIVE ME NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Nintendofreakcjm1

A lego set is fine but seeing as Zelda is already a game and not: a comic, movie, or cartoon, a Zelda Lego game would be completely redundant…

    • You-Know-Who

True, a building set will be far better.

    • dwrayswez

It’d give Nintendo a chance to give the Zelda franchise to more people… Lego offers a different style of play, it’s not for everyone, but fans of the series would like it if it combined settings, characters, and plot elements from each game released in the past 25 years… lego fans will like it cause it’s lego, and those curious in either will try it just to kill two birds with one stone.

      • mellentheherooftime

me and my brothe LOVE zelda and lego, seriously, we have like 6 boxes full of legos, so we are pretty happy about a lego ocarina of time.

    • RCHemp

What is so bad about lego games? I actually wouldn’t mind seeing a Lego Zelda game.

    • BlackRaven6695

      What about Lego Rock Band?

    • itsameluigi1290

ACTUALLY there are the Valiant Comics, and Manga. And the old Zelda cartoon. AND although there isn’t a movie, SS’s cutscenes were preeeeety darn close.
      JUST MY THOUGHT

  • dwrayswez

Nintendo look… Want to sell 10 million Zelda games in a month… Have Traveler’s Tales produce a game based on the entire series… Elements and Characters, like Vaati, Tingle, Fi, Navi, Epona, Marlon, Bosses from all previous Zelda games, mixed with Traveler’s Tales signature Lego Humor… This game would sell units like no other Lego Game.. and maybe produce a whole new fan base for the series…… OPERATION MOONFALL… Help start the petition…

    • zombie_eat_flesh

So, it would be like the Subspace Emissary in Brawl, to a degree?

    • itsameluigi1290

They’d have to get rid of their new voice acting, though.
      DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNNNN

  • Jam9t3

Wow this looks so awesome! I hope they make a Lego remake of OoT!

    • H37I

pfft. i hope they remake the whole series in lego!

    • Person

I don’t. I love the idea of Zelda in Lego form, but I don’t like the idea of Zelda in Lego Video Game form.

      • itsameluigi1290

What’s the difference? I mean, it’s basically the same thing, besides the fact that building is a lot faster.

    • Aerolfos

Don’t you mean LoZ: BoT, or Lego of Zelda: Brick of Time :D

  • Cmaster

    thats pretty awesome

  • lololol

    haha cool :p

  • burgerboy21

    Link is such a badass!

  • Zelda_1224

Personally I love the idea, but Nintendo already is in partnership with K’nex because they already have the Mario kart lego sets. I doubt that Nintendo would work with both companies. If they do go with Lego, they would be making a smarter choice. As dwrayswez said that if they did they can make a video game in legos and reach a whole new audience wich would benifit both companies. If nintendo was smart they would go with lego.

  • The Sign Writer

I find it interesting the fact that we as a Zelda community are so tightly bound to the true Zelda games that any deviation will reek havoc and destroy the series. I really don’t think that ONE spin-off or re-rendition in a different gaming style will take the community down to bricks and rocks, when there are Zelda games that Nintendo produced that not everyone enjoyed as much, which they state, and then are put down brutally by those who love them. At the same time, those who bruttaly put others down are more likely than not to have their own lower expectations for certain Zelda games, which are equally put down. You cannot satisfy everyone, but if you find that something in the series is created that you don’t like as much, you can simply just accept that it’s there, that some people enjoy it while you do not so much, and you can leave it alone. It’s a simple matter of accepting what comes is there and choosing to not lash out and barrage on it when you don’t like it.
Some people need to be more embracing of a world full of diversity and difference.

    • HachiNuu

      Well said!

    • http://www.zeldadungeon.net/ bob

WE WILL STAND TOGETHER FREE AND STRONG TO DEFEND ARE GAME. ONE FOR ZELDA, ZELDA FOR ALL!!!!!

  • Finn

I’m upset that this is fan art :(

  • aiden

My life is all about to things legend of zelda and legos, this will be awsome.

  • Rens

Wow! Just wow! You can even make out the word LEGO on the stud on Navi.

  • The New Guy

Will this be on europe too?

  • master_swordsman

Turns out Ganondorf is less threatening with pasta scoops for hands. Who knew?

  • I <3 Legend of Zelda 4Ever

I would like to see this become a lego set and a video game! I enjoyed the Harry Potter lego versions and I think this would be just as great.

  • http://www.facebook.com/bluecometsparklestar Bluecomet Sparklestar

Zelda is adventure rpg and puzzles lego is blocks and buildings.

    • King3De

      … What’s your point?

      • http://www.facebook.com/bluecometsparklestar Bluecomet Sparklestar

there is no point in making zelda lego bricks. i disagree on lego bricks

  • brian

Would buy this… don’t care how much it sucks… We wouldn’t have to worry about them making Link talk because they usually don’t make the lego characters talk either.

  • shithead

make it into a game and that would be badass. wii homies

  • http://www.facebook.com/taylor.simmons.14203 Taylor Simmons

    EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • itsameluigi1290

Well, this is awesome. Reminds me that the Lego Cuusoo project is under evaluation, meaning it MIGHT become a reality.

  • BrickLink the third

I think a LEGO Legend of Zelda video game would be great! Zelda is easily my favorite videogame franchise and LEGO has done a good job with their other videogames on creating humorous but not insulting parodies… Plus Link doesn’t talk and LEGO videogame characters don’t talk, it’s a perfect fit!

  • Goldenblade

Nintendo COULD and Nintendo SHOULD. They NEED to endorse this. I would LOVE to see a LEGO LoZ. The Lego Of Zelda.

    • BR!4N

      Legond of Zelda?

    • http://www.facebook.com/coolkangarooo Gabriel Gomez

The Lego of Zelda would be an UHHHMAZING name for the lego set in fact I should be saying it should.

  • BR!4N

    This. Is. Awesome.

  • Wind waker link

    so cool!

  • dinolfos

if this became a real thing and you cold buy it in stores….count me in!

  • itsameluigi1290

The LEGOnd of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
    Yep, I said it.

  • Tingle

    Where is Tingle?

  • Skull Kid 57

I think that it would be great to do this, but if they were to do a game, I think they should do skyward sword.

    • dwrayswez

Unispired and unimaginative thinking… What the Lego’s game should be is a game that pays tribute to all the games in the series… original in it’s concept and story, but included are characters and favorite bosses from each game. Like I stated earlier, they could include Tingle, Vaati, Ganondorf, Demise, the Goddesses, Gomaha, Dodogon, Thunderbird, shadow link and etc… blended with the LEGO humor and Nintendo dungeon design this game would be amazing… Would be a major AAA title for Traveler’s Tales and Nintendo… Lego: Undercover City looks freaking great btw…

  • baileygirl99

    Wow. That’s an awesome picture.

  • Mikey

I will buy if this is made ಠ_ಠ

  • Vink2012

I would so buy the lego set if they do sell it in stores. They should make a Lego Zelda game, perhaps a spinoff though.

  • Tommyjoe Pete

Zelda looks like a man and Ganondorf looks like a girl.

  • arse

once it’s out, i’m gonna buy it all :P

  • Anonymous

    :o

  • Amber Evans

i wonder how they would do the sword
    pointy or round?

  • logandews

Zelda lego sets would be a good idea, but a Zelda Lego game would just basically be another Zelda game but with a different art style.

  • Twilight Prince

Am I the only one wondering why this idea hasn’t come up before?

  • MiniJen

Let Lego to make this, Nintendo. LET THEM!!!!

  • Narutotaku93

i find the idea of a lego LoZ set very possible. I mean lego has a great relationship with nintendo and they even have an exclusive game title coming specificly for the wii u
