Early Footage From the Oracle Games

Our friends over at GitterBerri have recently posted some early screenshots, magazine scans and beta footage. There are some very interesting differences and comparisons, as well as things like variations on graphics or animations. Some of the artwork also appears different in the beta versions. Some things are different colors in the earlier version or more details have been added in later stages of development. There might be a few things in the early stages some of us may have wanted in the main game!

Magazine Shots

Many of these magazine shots are likely mockup images created by the developers to give the media an idea of what the games would look like rather than actual screenshots. Nevertheless, as mockups frequently act as models for how the creators planned to lay things out, their differences with the final games have been dutifully noted.

The most obvious difference is the slingshot graphic, which is normally blue. In addition, there are no blue Ropes in the Oracle series, only green. The most similar room to this area in the final game appears to be this one from Level 3[...]

Press Disk

The following screenshots are taken from the Nintendo Spaceworld 2000 press disk.

The portrait of Link and Din differs from the final game. In this one, the art is more detailed and less flat, and Link has a different expression on his face.[...]

The graphics of the castle, the strip of green space separating the castle and the forest, the bridge, the details of the background, and the placement of Link differ from the final intro screen.[...]

The whole plot description differs from the final games. Ganondorf never appears in either title, and Ganon only appears as the final boss and Zelda is only kidnapped by Twinrova when players link OoS and OoA. In addition, it mentions how Maple was originally a friend like Ricky was. In the final game, she just used to obtain more items, as seen in this video.[...]

Upon reading the full article, I thought it would be awesome if you could see Giant Cuccoos outdoors. That’s one of the things that would be cool if it made it into the final version. I find it strange how the plot changed, like how Ganondorf didn’t appear in either game.

    These games need to get on the 3DS eShop, and quick. I never had the chance to play them, and I really want to. ;.;

    I hope that Nintendo puts the oracle games on the 3DS soon, those are my favorite Gameboy Color games!

    Do any of you want to play Oracle of Ages/ Seasons, or Links Awakening DX but don’t have the console or cartridge? Well, if you go to http://www.playr.org you can play them on your computer for free.

    Is it just me or did that paragraph below the “Tale of power” image make little sense. I might just be missing something but “Zelda is only kidnapped by Twinrova when PLAYERS Link OoS and OoA” HUH???????
