Link and the Broken Vase Comic

AllyFebruary 18th, 2012 by Ally

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about the Zelda series over the years, it’s is that not everything has to make sense. I’m not even referring to the fantasy elements of the games. How often in real life does money pop out of freshly cut grass? In Skyward Sword, why does Link sink in quicksand while the ampilus can walk without a problem and bombs roll safely across? Or, drawing near to the subject of the comic, why do broken vases reappear when you leave an area and then come back? It isn’t as if a vase is able to regrow like the grass and pumpkins. What do witnesses think of pots reappearing? Thanks to Kurama-chan on deviantART, we can see Fledge’s reaction to vases appearing out of thin air. Make the jump to check out the comic below.

There are a few reasons I like this comic. First and foremost, I’m glad that I understood what happened the first time I read it! That’s always a plus. Next, I like Fledge’s reaction. Since he isn’t the most muscular or popular student at the Knight Academy, the things that Link is able to do seem to amaze him, this being no exception. It’s funny how much amusement he gets over the smallest things. The third thing I think is interesting about the comic is the vase placement in the first picture. I don’t know why it was in the middle of the doorway, and it looks like I’ll never find out. Last, I like the rage face at the bottom. If I saw vases appearing out of nowhere, that is exactly what I would be thinking.

How do you like it? What are your favorite things about the comic? What else can you think of that doesn’t make much sense in the series? Post a comment and let us know.

What kind of sorcery IS that, anyway?

    • Anonymous

If you ever find out, let me know. (:

      • boo_boo_lofty_wing

I BLAME ZELDA. She knows Magicicalis. or Magic. whatever you want to call it.

      • Anonymous

Some sources tell me it is Necromotancy (Necromancy and Miyamotery).

        • Anonymous

Not Necromancy, Chronomancy. A Necromancer is a person who plays with dead things, where as a Chronomancer is a person who plays with time. And since Link is the hero of time, he’s the ultimate chronomancer.  Link makes the pot travel back in time to before the pot was broke while he is inside.

          • Anonymous

Then where does Miyamotery come in? It has to have that in there somewhere.

          • Anonymous

Miyamoto created Chronomancy. So Chronomancy is a special field of Miyamototery.

  • Xdocis

    its…. MAGIC!!!!

  • Eternal Nocturne

The next day, the people of Skyloft watch in confusion as Fledge goes in and out of houses screaming, “WHY WON’T IT WORK?!” XD

    • boo_boo_lofty_wing

      I CAN IMAGINE THAT.

  • Jongameaddict

There’s a Facebook page called “What kind of Black Magic F***ery is this?” But… without the quotation marks.

    • Jongameaddict

      And it’s the actual word.

    HaHaHa I love this

  • Link Fanatic

It must be Link’s Magic hat.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/robotortoise Robotortoise

This applies to all video games in general, not just in Zelda games…

Although, Ocarina Of Time was originally going to have a system where when you cut a tree down or smashed a pot, that tree and pot would be broken for the whole game….
This idea ended up being scrapped, though, when the game was ported from the N64DD to the N64, but the idea still lives on in one of Nintendo’s other game series….

    • Eternal Nocturne

I… I can’t imagine how horrible that would be. Link won’t be able to cure his need to break into people’s houses and break their pots! D:

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Keichi-Morisato/100000966444006 Keichi Morisato

actually the original version of OoT was much better and much much more expansive. and yeah no clue as to why they scrapped it for what we got though great is a shell of what it could’ve and would’ve been. they even took out two whole dungeons from OoT’s current version (you know the version of the game we got) the version we got was actually a rush job because they changed it drastically close to a year to six months before it came out. my goal is to someday aquire the old data from the betas of OoT and MM as well as TP recreate them and sell as independent games. (i want to get nintedo’s permission first of course)

        • http://www.youtube.com/user/robotortoise Robotortoise

I can tell you why they scrapped it. The game was originally made to require an add on for the N64, but the add-on wasn’t selling well, so they had to change the game to work without the add-on.

    hahahahahaaaaaaa-aaaaa………fledge is so creepy sometimes…

  • avalpsychicguy

The following don’t make sense about the series:
    1.  Picking up small blood-pumping organs will heal Link, and picking up 4 medium-sized ones or a large one will increase how long he lives.
    2.  Link falls off cliffs and into lava all the time.  How, may I ask, does he suddenly reappear on solid ground?
    3.  No amount of protective gear should possibly prevent Link from lighting on fire the instant he enters a room filled with lava.
    4.  Link can’t jump at will???  (AoL is the exception)
    5.  Up until Wind Waker, no one ever taught Link how to use a sword.  How did he just suddenly know how to use it right when it was given to him?
    6.  Link gets tired after 10 seconds of sprinting.
    7.  Deku Babas somehow manage to hide in leaves smaller than themselves.
    8.  Octoroks’ rocks shoot in a straight line at a low velocity.  You’d think gravity would affect them, but no…
    9.  Where is all the chain stored in the hookshot/clawshots?  Also, like #8, they go in a straight line, unaffected by gravity.
    10.  How does Epona hear her song from clear across Hyrule?
There are many, many more that I can’t think of right now, I’m sure.  Just goes to show that you don’t need logic when you play a video game…

    • Anonymous

Haha, this is great. Number 5 is my favorite. How does he automatically know how to use *any* of the items that he gets? And he’s a boss at it, too. I also like 10. Epona must have some pretty freaking awesome hearing. Epic horse for an epic master. ;D

    • Eternal Nocturne

And many others. XD Although, in Skyward Sword, you can make Link jump by pressing Z + A (forward).

Then again, if we’re counting side hops and backflips and whatnot, all of the 3D Zeldas include Link jumping. :D

    • Anonymous

      4. Side jumps, back flips… and auto jumping, but other than that, he doesn’t need to jump, Zelda isn’t a platformer
      7. They could… burrow underground?
      9. Look at them, the chain is wrapped around the outside.
      10. Its a magical song on a magical ocarina… or she has incredible hearing. The real question is, how does she get to you in two seconds from across Hyrule?

    • Linkfan98

Its a game anything is possible

        omg I love chuggaconroy ^-^

    • awsomeMrlink

These are nonsense answers to nonsense questions.
      1. Link puts the small hearts on his heart…..and puts large hearts in his body….ugh…..
      2. His partner saves him…or he can secretly save him self from anything
      3. The gear is magical or from a goddess or both.
      4. Link’s ability to jump at will was taken as a baby and turned into roc’s cape.
      5. Well all he had to do is press the b button…..oh wait, we’re not talking 4th dimensionally. You just swing a sword to use it……..
      6. Fi takes Link’s life force so she can say,”You’re battery is low.”
      7. They went into Mario land and got the pixl Dottie?
      8. They shoot at an impossible force that makes gravity not effect it.
      9. Like my answer for 8, and the chain is magical.
      10. Epona was given invisible potions from Malon(or whatever the games verison of her was) and fakes that she hears it all the way across the land because Epona follows you because she’s a scardey cat( horse )

    • Anonymous

      11.  How does aging by 7 years make Link forget how to swing a WOODEN STICK?

    • Anonymous

The Chain in the clawshots and hookshots wrap around the device.

  • A_LINK_IN_TIME

I always perceived Link to be a pot breaking prick! ;)

I shal go congratulate my friend on her comic meeting Zelda Dungeon!

    It’s cute, I like it.

      • Anonymous

Nope, its the Picori. Its been proven.

  • Tommyjoe Pete

And also how does Link light bombs exactly the moment they come out of his pack?
Come to think of it, how does his pack hold so many bombs in the first place?!

    • Derpy Hooves

My question is – when Link pulls out the lantern in Twilight Princess, it is already lit… yet he stores it with the bombs??

  • Nintendocan

This is funny. Especially the part where Fledge made the Le Gasp face.

    • Neidermayer

Hah, it’s funny because you explained it.

  • Anonymous

    hahahahahha nice! xD

    • Yourmom

Wtf is with the brawl picture

  • Anonymous

very simple explanation. The Picori fix the pot while Link is inside. The 5 seconds it takes for him to walk in and the 5 seconds it takes him to walk out is all they need to get it in good shape. They don’t have time to re-hide the rupees and such in them, though

  • Anonymous

Even angels admire elfs and picori. Plus, did anyone else notice the heart in the first picture? It looked like a lollipop.
