Ocarina of Time 3D: Double Shield Glitch

Here is something I haven’t seen before. A glitch that causes the game to think your sword is a shield. So you have your regular shield equipped and then your sword also serves as a shield. This is what happened to YouTuber MidnaSpirit and she doesn’t know how to fix the problem! She has tried saving, shutting off the game, entering different areas, but nothing seems to work. Go ahead and make the jump to see a video of the glitch in action and be sure to let us know if you’ve ever encountered this glitch before.     Did she do it unintentionally? I’d like to do that, it would be cool… except it would be permanent…

        Easy fix. Use all of the deku sticks. Jump into the water, get out, re-equip your sword, or buy the Giant’s Knife/ get the Biggoron’s Sword, equip.

        Have you tried equipping other swords? It looks like he’s holding a two-handed sword such as the Biggoron Sword/Giant’s Knife..

          I think it’s the Giant’s Knife, because it looked like the “sword” broke just before the game stopped letting her take it out. But I was thinking she could try switching swords, or something to fix it.

      Can anybody help I am in the shadow temple master quest and I can walk on death spikes and tough every badguy without losing a heart. And sometimes the camra anlge is off and I didn’t do any glitches. Is my game glitched?

    She just did the steal the rod glitch, which makes you use the Deku Sticks instead of the sword. Not a big deal.

    Seems like it might have something to do with the Giant’s Knife, if she hasn’t done the trading sequence yet, and has the Giant’s knife, perhaps finishing the sequence might fix the issue? Just a thought.

    She should try to maybe change her equipment, or maybe change back into a child. I haven’t played the 3DS version myself, and I’m pretty sure this hasn’t happened to many people, if not just her.

    Still, I’d really like to know how she even managed to do that. Very curious.

      I did change back into a child, and the sword worked fine, but if I changed back into an adult, same thing. So weird. xD

        You CAN Fix this all you have to do is but the giants knife from the goron (The knife can be any model the weak one or the strong one) Then equip it the same thing happened to me so you CAN fix this glitch Just equip the giant’s knife and it will be fixed

    o_o aparently link is swinging a deku stick look at the brown trail it leaves. and it also breaks against the wall. and it didnt let her swing again because the game thinks she ran out of deku sticks

      Yes although how did she get Deku Sticks as an Adult? Steal the Rod doesn’t hve the same effect on 3DS does it?

    Zelda dungeon, not a sword, deku sticks. It makes the game think your sword is a sheild made out of deku sticks.

    I’ve never encountered this glitch, but when I became adult link while doing the young link with master sword glitch it wouldn’t let me use my sword either. i fixed by buying the giant’s knife

    Hey thanks for posting this! I actually also had this in the forums under Zelda Game help ’cause I was baffled… Petman suggested I buy the Giant’s Knife, and it worked!

    The glitch duplicated your shield? That kind of stinks, but I’m glad to see it got resolved, zelda_geek.

    THIS CAN BE FIXED !!!! ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS EQUIP A DIFFERENT SWORD!!!!!!!!! It happened to me too! it didnt let me use my mastersword so I Bought the super cheap weak big goron sword and then equipped it!!!!!!!!!! It SERIOULSY DOES WORK!!!!!!!!

    This is strange. She “stole the rod” accidentally?

    If this if doable instantaneously in a dungeon, this could save a TON of time in speedruns. Now we just have to figure out how to replicate it….

      This is EXACTLY what I did: When I had gotten up to the part in the Shadow Temple with that hallway and all the Skullutas, I saved and turned it off. A few hours later I turned it back on, warped to the Shadow Temple, went back to the hallway, and pulled my “shield” out. xD

      There is three stages to most glitches:
      - encounter
      - reproduce
      - evaluate

      Often, it’s difficult to reproduce glitches as the reasons for them to happen might be fairly random.
      Glitches that are easy to reproduce, could be evaluated for their usefulness and either marked as “useless”, “dangerous” or “abusable”.

      Though if somebody encounters a glitch and has NO clue how that could have worked, you’re stick in the first phase.
      That’s what happened to her.

      Working out glitches isn’t always easy. Though it surely is fun to bring a game to its limits, as long as a certain glitch doesn’t totally break the game.

    Interesting glitch. I think others above have suggested this already, but try eqquipping a different sword. Also, I am rather curious, how did this occur? Is it triggered on command, some sorts of in-game accident, or did the game just loaded like that?

      Uh, well… It could have loaded like that.. I’m not really sure, because I didn’t take out my “sword” until I was to a certain place. Not really sure. xD

    i did this ages ago, to get the megaton hammer as young link, just go to youtube and type in “Ocarina of time 3ds bottle quest” and it shows many more glitches

    WOW! Zelda OoT in 3D has awesome picture! Way better (and different!) then the Wii version! It’s brighter, clearer, and less… uh… “Square”

    The glitch is part of a series of glitch things all she has to do is get the goron sword, then switch back and for and there you go. I know this because i strive to get game changing glitches, like skipping deku sword and black gauntlets.

    it happend to my friend before and then i figured it out u just switch shields and he said it was fix but im lucky it didnt happen to me

    Do they have the giant’s knife or Biggoron’s sword? If so, equip that and then re-equip the master sword. Problem solved! If you hit the walls so many times, it won’t let you swing the sword again unless you escape the glitch by doing the above.

    If she wants to fix it she should just try breaking all her deku sticks.  This glitch is part of a larger glitch actually that involves stealing a various fishing rod, and I’ve experienced this glitch many times.
