A Look Behind the Legend of Zelda Concert Series

MasesJanuary 27th, 2012 by Mases

The Symphony of the Goddess Tour is now underway. After three events last year in Tokyo, Los Angeles, and London, the Zelda Symphony is now set on a year long tour across North America. The first event already took place on January 10th in Dallas, Texas, with future events scheduled throughout the year. Mike Damiani of Game Trailers recently got a chance to catch up with Jeron Moore, one of the concerts producers and you can see part of their interview below.

There were a lot of songs covered in the concert, but there were noticeable omissions like anything from Link’s Awakening. Will the upcoming 2012 tour cover a wider range of songs?

Jeron Moore: Absolutely. Expect to hear music from Majora’s Mask, Link’s Awakening and more as the show continues to evolve. It’s been designed to offer something new to repeat patrons… for instance, we’ll be in Vancouver on March 14th. The next time we’re in town, there will be marked differences in the program, so if you liked the show the first time, you won’t want to miss out on coming again. It’s important for us to keep fans engaged and surprised. I’m constantly browsing the forums, too – so keep shouting out your favorites. We’re listening!

What are your thoughts on the audience reactions during the performance in Los Angeles? Apparently Aonuma was disappointed by the US audience?

Jeron Moore: I’d rather not speak for Aonuma-san. I do believe he was disappointed that the US audience had posted YouTube videos from the Los Angeles performance, spoiling it for those in London that would experience it shortly thereafter. Aside from that, there’s the ever-present and polarizing argument from fans on how to behave during a symphonic performance (to yell or not to yell during a piece), but you can’t fault the audience for being excited. The concept of a Zelda concert is going to appeal to a lot of people, some of which have never been to an orchestral concert before. I was excited to see our audience in Dallas reserve their enthusiasm for between the pieces… it really allowed the audience to hear every nuance of the arrangements. Though when the 4th movement began, devoted to A Link to the Past, it admittedly got a little rowdy. I may have even screamed a bit (oops).

Be sure to head on over to Game Trailers to check out the full interview.

question… whats the difference between the cheapest ticket and the most expensive?

    • http://www.zeldadungeon.net/ Mases Hagopian

It’s just like many concerts where the prime tickets are closer to the actual stage. However… I think there was some special behind the scenes meet-and-greet for the highest priced tickets. I’m not sure if that is at every event, so just check it out for your particular event.

      • MichMasteR

yeah I heard about that in the first one but I haven’t seen any news about the upcoming ones

    • Jderome1

Cheapest = last row behind a column; most expensive = front row, maybe even a chance to get some musician’s sweat in the face :)

  • A_LINK_IN_TIME

Highly anticipating this in the near future!

  • I’m Awesome

Can Link help it when he grunts when he rolls? That’s how I was during the concert, tried to shut up but just couldn’t hold in my excitement! :D

  • Gannondork

Is there going to be one around Pennsylvania?

    • http://www.zeldadungeon.net/ Mases Hagopian

One has already been announced for Philadelphia. They had a press release about it a few weeks ago, but they haven’t added it to their schedule just yet.

      • King3De

You can, however, buy tickets. I bought mine just yesterday.

  • linksys

i wonder if i cant go if they will make a CD of the songs

    • Shadowknight1

That was actually asked, they said that they’re looking into that.

What, you didn’t get one with your copy of Skyward Sword? Or didn’t you buy Skyward Sword (curse you, high cost of games!!!)? ;-)

  • Lexi Z

man…I wish they would make the CD’s and put them on iTunes…I was going to go to the one is Seattle, but then it snowed too hard and crushed us financially:/

  • achiu

will there be more concerts in 2013?

  • HatredHazard

This symphony has produced some of the best music I’ve ever heard in my entire life. That 25th anniversary CD was just….gah! Amazing! I rly wish they fit in all the songs in the CD instead of like half; Zelda’s Lullaby and Hyrule Castle pieces are awesome. I’m rly glad they’re gonna add Majora’s Mask stuff; I was surprised by its neglect, I’m also surprised I didn’t here much of the classic Ocarina stuff, like Epona’s song, Saria’s song, Song of Time, Song of Storms. C’mon, i know it’s overplayed, but that stuff is essential!!!

This is awesome, I wasn’t aware of this. =O

I would love to hear maybe another Ocarina of Time song for the Denver show. It’s hard to wait until April, but it’s going to be amazing no matter what! ; 3; <3

Hope this comes to Sydney, Australia! Aussie fans deserve at least one concert!

Pleeeease come back to LA!! I was so sad I could hardly hear the music most of the time due to the yelling! Please come back and let’s hope the audience does better this time!!!

  • Tingle Tingle Kooloolimpah

Grr… Why can’t they come to VA?????? :(

    • DFM of Hyrule

God, YES! They need to do a concert in or near the mid-Atlantic. Washington, D.C.; Richmond, VA; Charlotte, NC; or even Baltimore, MD….Right now the closest concert to me is Atlanta, and that’s over a ten-hour drive just for a few hours of (admittedly brilliant) music! Plus, pretty much all the good seats in Atlanta have been sold already. I woulda bought one the day they went on sale, but I was waiting to hear of a concert closer to me. PLEASE don’t make me regret the decision to wait, Zelda Symphony!

  • Bkroehling

Aonuma was mad that people were screaming???

    • http://twitter.com/Zordauch Jonathan Rail

There’s a HUGE difference in how you’re supposed to act at an orchestral performance versus a rock concert. Generally, the assumption at the former is that audience members are to remain respectfully silent so that everyone can enjoy every nuance of the music, reserving their still-dignified applause for the end of each piece.

  • Xixor

I went to the premier concert in Dallas and I highly recommend you going! It was amazing! And yes, they played songs from older games like LttP and LA. The music was beautiful, even for a non-Zelda fan. Again, I highly recommend it! I don’t want to spoil anything about it, but if you have questions ask me!

    • MichMasteR

what ticket did you get? I want to know if the most expensive one has any extras

  • Neonmatthew

Did they sell any kind of merchandise at the concert? i just wanna know how much extra cash i should bring for things to buy lol i cant wait for the concerts in phoenix =D

  • Walter Bomba

LOL, well they could come to Calgary Alberta 4 times in the same year and I would still end up going to every single concert aha.  :P
