Curiosity Shop Week 14: Zelda Dungeon Mailbag

Axle the Beast
June 8th, 2010 by Axle the Beast

Curiosity ShopSo here it is, guys, the last Curiosity Shop before E3! Next week’s going to be one hell of a party, expect some big things! Until then, I’ll try to keep you satiated with some discussion videos.

The questions and their timestamps are:

(00:30) – You said you wanted less dungeons, but what if the dungeons were done well?
(01:15) – What do you think is the hardest game in the series?
(02:18) – Do you think Midna will be in the new Zelda game even with the ending of Twilight Princess?
(02:54) – Do you think Nintendo should bring back the Gossip Stones?
(03:40) – Do you think Zelda will play a larger role in Zelda Wii?
(04:39) – Do you think Zelda Wii will have any downloadable content? If so how would it work?
(06:01) – Think Zelda Wii will have a new villain since it can’t have Ganon without the Master Sword?
(07:16) – Would you like Zelda Wii’s soundtrack to be orchestrated?
(08:21) – Where do you think the next Zelda will take place? How will they keep it fresh?
(09:09) – What character from a previous game would you like to make a cameo appearance in Zelda Wii?
(10:04) – A rumored title for Zelda Wii is The Legend of Zelda: The Fall of Hyrule. Is this true?

Be sure to send your questions to xx5terrorlord@earthlink.net for the next mailbag, although there won’t be one next week. The week after that there will be, though!

See if you can guess the songs I played and the quote on the back of the paper!

So are you as excited about E3 and Zelda Wii news as I am?! As for some of the questions, what do YOU think is the hardest game in the series? What gave you trouble? Do you want Midna or the Gossip Stones to appear again? Think it’s even possible Midna will appear again? Tell me in the comments!

    first comment! I cant wait!

    • Ocarina Fan says:

MM is easy, AoL is by far, the hardest. The only ones easier than MM is PH, ST, WW, and the Fs games.

    • Ocarina Fan says:

You beat Ganon without the Master Sword in OoX and LoZ. You don't need the Master Sword at all.

    • Miniike says:

ADVENTURE OF LINK IS HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD! THE LAST DUGEON IS LIKE INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The valley of death is by far the hardest area in zelda history.

  • PieBloc265 says:

    i love gossip stones

  • kamico says:

I hope one of Link,s partners from one of the past 3D Zelda games return. For example, Navi or Midna.

    • jlemon9721 says:

Navi deffinetly, Midna has already gotten sealed away in da Twilight realm. And, the Wii is capable of downloadable content, just get Boom Blox Bash Party! Almost half the game is download!

      • linkdude101 says:

        Downloadable Content sucks.

      • slambrecht says:

They've alway found ways to bring characters back especially villains like Gandorf (how many times hasn't he b e sealed away?) and vaati. So I'm pretty sure they can make up something to bring Midna back.

        • Link Fanatic says:

          I WANT MIDNA BAAAAAAAACK!!!!

          • X x7 says:

why does everyone want midna back? she wasnt even that great. the only reason that everyone hated navi was because she was annoying, and they could definetly fix that.

          • Drew says:

I Don't Know Why People Thought Navi Was Annoying. Most Of The Time I Didn't Notice She Was Even There.

          • triforce says:

Why Are You Capitalizing Every Word? (i'm mocking you) lol

          • alex says:

i always noticed he was there i just dont find her annoying

          • Drew says:

I Just Don't Know What Was Annoying About Her. I Thought She Was Kinda helpful sometimes.

  • Mcnoodle says:

id either like Vatti or a new villian.Vatti in 3D! i cant imagine it.also if theres a new villian(which i see as the highist possibility of happaning) id like it to be a girl but thats just me.

  • Link's shadow says:

FINALLY!! I never thought anybody would mention the E3 listings name for the zelda wii. I sent it like 2 months ago and I got ignored. -tear- That really hurt. But at least they mentioned it and im happy

  • HappyMaskSalesman says:

A character to return? I would choose the Happy Mask Salesman, as he seems to defy time. Perhaps a more minor character I'd like to return would be GuruGuru and his Windmill Hut. If they want to surpass the N64 titles, they'd best at least throw in the Song of Storms…

  • DARK MASTER says:

a lot of fans say zelda2 but as a zelda master I will say zelda game and watch is the hardest zelda and by the way you do not need the
master sword to kill ganon cuz what about FSA and the four sword or LOZ

  • kramus says:

I have to disagree with you on the orchestral themes not fitting into dungeons.
Played in the right way, classic instruments can do amazing sound design, giving certain emotions to a point that you can even SEE the surrounding land by just hearing the music. You close the eyes and see a mental image of the dungeon. Now THAT would be awesome :)
However, those need a lot of effort. Both the composer and the musicians have to exactly feel how the place is in order to translate it into music.
Also, it's not too hard to create themes that make you feel creepy or hasty or something.
Many of the various Zeldathemes (probably not the first ones, being 8bit but nearly all the younger ones most likely, as well as the remixes of the 8bit ones) should be playable with instruments anyway. Brawl did a great job on that, I love the soundtrack of that game :) – There, they didn't only use classical orchestral instruments but also E-guitars or generally E-instruments. Depending on the usage (I really don't know for Zelda and E-Guitars, though), they could shift the whole Orchestral soundtrack to the next level, even. (Not them alone but where they are well integrated, which is incredibly hard to do)

  • kramus says:

? How does that work? I didn't even post the comment and it's already "deleted by the administrator"? Is this an error?

I just wrote, that I disagree with you on orchestral music. It would be awesome. That's the short version :)

    • Eternal Nocturne says:

I guess it's deleted by the administrator if your comment is too long. :(

      • kramus says:

I clicked on "Submit Comment" and it already was deleted…
I'd prefer a message that tells me "this post is too long. The limit is x signs, you currently use y. Please shorten." Or something between those lines.
Quite frustrating if a long piece of work – long posts are quite a bit of work if they're not just spam – just disappears without any warning…

(And actually I already wrote longer posts which passed through just fine…)

Oh well, thanks for the clarification :)

    • triforce says:

same happened to me, my line was one line long, and i submitted and it said deleted. ???

  • erg says:

downloadable bnus items. that mail man could give them to you. if he's there

  • wolf_link says:

i hope the overworld will be like it was in twilight princess because there was so much that you could do and i hope that they bring the happy mask salesman back

    • Ariel says:

I might disagree with you there. Although it was friggin awesome and huge and awesome and awesome. There wasn't very much to do but walk and stumble upon the occasional chest, cave, vine, spinner track. But yes, awesome! Same size (maybe bigger), more to do.

    • Xloi63 says:

the overworld should be as big as Twilight Princess, true, but it was boring and there wasnt much to do. The older games had many more things to do in the overworlds, and they should bring the old ideas of exploration, not destination

      Open-endedness vs. linearity

  • Pechy says:

I think there should be some orchestrated music, maybe not all. I just hope that Nintendo uses MP3 format music instead of cheap, low quality MIDI music. Also, it's been confirmed that the game is called Prophet of Light.

    • Almo SSBB says:

i doubt that name has been confirmed, and if it was, who confirmed it?we all know how secretive nintendo is being these days with zelda wii so i dont believe that name is true yet. cant wait for E3 for the big unveil of zelda wii, if there is going to be one…

    • X x7 says:

umm… no it hasnt. Zelda Informer specificaly stated why they THINK the name is gonna be called PoL.

  • Almo SSBB says:

i dont think zelda wii needs downloadable content, just put everything in the same cd!

  • HappyMaskSalesman says:

It would be interesting to see a sidequest revolved around the Happy Mask Salesman. Perhaps even have a side game for him. He seems like the type who wouldn't mind scaling the tower in Clock Town, jumpin off Windfall Island's windmill, and landing in TP's Lake Hylia to finish off a day of buisiness. I also wouldn't mind seeing a darker version of him… or more, a darker storyline for him.

  • Link Fanatic says:

is xx5terrorlord@earthlink.net there E-MAIL?? I need to know!!

  • Link622 says:

I heard the opening theme from Wind Waker! I love it! So excited for E3!!!!

  • Drew says:

Actually You Don't The Master Sword To Defeat Ganon. In the First Zelda Game You Had The Magical Sword And The Silver Arrows Were used To defeat Him.

    • X x7 says:

i think the silver arrows have the same power as the master sword. thats why in aLttP, you needed the master sword AND the silver arrows, because ganon had the full triforce, so you needed twice the power.

      • Drew says:

True. But That Still Shows You That You Don't Need The Master Sword To Defeat Him. And If I Remember You Use The Four Sword To Beat Him In Four Swords Adventures. I'm Just Saying they Can Make A Zelda G Areame With Ganon In It And Not The Master Sword Or Vice-Versa . Ganon And The Master Sword Are Some of My Favorite Elements In Zelda And Are Still A Classic Combination

        • X x7 says:

first off, why do you use caps on all of the first letters of the words you type? Second off, I just said, its the same power, and I don't think that they're ever gonna bring back the Arrows of Light/silver (i forgot to say that in FSA, they use the Bow and Arrows with a ball of light to kill him, not really the four sword) or any other way to kill ganon besides the Master Sword.

          • Drew says:

I'm Just Saying They Could Change It Up A little Bit. For Example:Link Get The Master Sword And Somebody New Be The Villain. That's Just My Opinion. No Need To Get Mad or Anything. And I Type Like This Because For Some Reason It Comes Natural.

          • X x7 says:

            i wasnt getting mad sorry

          • Drew says:

That's Alright. I Wasn't Trying To Offend The Die-hard Fans of The Ganon/Master Sword Combination. I Didn't Want Anybody Getting Mad At What I Said.

  • triforce says:

lol when you removed your hat i thought you were going to say "omg, i got a new haircut!"

and i heard alttp dark work field, gerudo valley (love that theme), wind waker opening

  • kuromikatt says:

WE NEED MORE DUNGEONS! Yes they should be done well. I picked up the old school Zelda games… N64 (i am not THAT old school), I was QUITE happy with Ocarina of time, but I am playing Majoras Mask, I am almost disappointed sad to say due to the lack of dungeon action. ALTHOUGH I AM enjoying it.
Another response, the hardest to me was actually WindWaker. For two reasons, it was hard to take seriously at times, and TWO IT WAS JUST SO BLOODY LONG!

    • triforce says:

wins waker is one of the shortest games in the series. in all the games i played, wind waker was the easiest for me. there were absolutely no puzzles

      • X x7 says:

There were puzzles. What, did you use a guide? Wind Waker had like what, 5 temples? Each of them were pretty long, especially with the break in getting Nayrus Pearl where there was no dungeon. What about classics like AoL and the first game?

        • triforce says:

nope. no guide. it was quite easy. the only part i actually had difficulty was getting money for the triforce charts

    • Almo SSBB says:

WW was short and easy for me

  • X x7 says:

what about a new instrument? What do you think that would be?

    • MajoraMan says:

so far as far as i know theyve used:
      Ocarina
      Pan flute
      windwaker
      flute
      Deku Pipes—
      goron drums——- Majoras Mask!!!
      Fish guitar___/
      Howling voice of wolf
      Weed whistling
Thats about all of them I know.

      • X x7 says:

yeah but I mean a NEW instrument. What do you think they could use?

        • Drew says:

For Some Reason I Know This Sounds Stupid But I Would Like To See A Conch (Don't Remember If It Was In Zelda Yet or How They Would Use It In A New Game) Or A Fife/Piccolo. I Know There A Type of Flute, But It Would Still Be Cool

  • Justin says:

The title possibly could be this: the legend of Zelda: the return of Majora.

P.S. I don't know where E3 is going to be. Can anybody tell me?

    • LadyIntomoe says:

They hold E3 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

For time keeping's sake, Nintendo's official conference date is the 15th, if I'm not mistaken. They should unveil most of what they have to offer that day, an exact week from today.

  • Jake says:

Ha! He chose my question as the last one! Cant wait till E3! Gonna be awesome.

  • MajoraMan says:

I loved this mail bag. It was full of great goodies.
    MUSIC Check!!! I heard:
    1.Potion shop (Oot)
    2.Dark World Theme (Alttp)
    3.Gerudo Valley (Oot)
    4.Wind Waker opening theme (WW)
    5.Something from Twilight princess???
6.really not sure about this one…
    7. The last one is the indigogo's band from Majoras Mask

  • TLoZmastr says:

i'll like to see that all the villians in all zelda games( except bellum and malladus) get together (not working in team because that will be strange)only to kill link and zelda and that to destroy them you have to make a "power up" to the master sword or to defeat them with the triforce slash XD ( not really)

    • TLoZmastr says:

oh and it's obvious that the girl in the drawing is going to be the replacement of midna, navi, tatl, ezlo, etc. so there will be no midna in this game

    • X x7 says:

well why not Malladus or Bellum? I thought they were pretty cool…

      • Bongo670 says:

That 's a great idea! I totally endorse that thought.

      • TLoZmastr says:

well because they are from the "toon" TLoZ and this game is about the" original " zelda, in which hyrule hasn't been covered by seas, but it could only fit whith these villians if the game is placed in the spirit tracks hyrule. hey now that I think about it, that could be kinda cool

        • TLoZmastr says:

hmm talking about this, if the name could be the end of hyrule, it could tell what really happened in hyrule when it get covered by seas

  • flaming pickle says:

    nice haircut : )

  • MetaPwn says:

ok, heard – the feild to aLttP, the gerudo area, the opening to wind waker, and something involving malon's voice. but i agree, i HATE the hardness of AoL… it's extreamly hard on my emulator and i've only beatin one temple

  • VanitasXII says:

Hardest Zelda game to me is…Majora's Mask. Haven't gotten close to beating it. Even with the guide, it was too hard. What gave me trouble the most in the game was just how big the world was and…Stone Tower Temple. Gossip Stones are awesome, I just loved bombing them in OoT. I liked the countdown that they did, it was funny at the time. I hope it isn't possible for Midna to return, I didn't like her character at all. She was somewhat like Tetra, in my opinion. Both were greedy until they realized their "destiny".

  • Majora16 says:

Who exactly is "The Old Man"? That's kind of vague..

  • LoZ OoT says:

i want the gossip stones to come back cause i like it how they rocket away after hitting them with a bomb!:D:D

  • Austin zelda fan #1 says:

I think the hardest game in my opinion is Zelda 2. I can't get any farther than the traveling around death mountain to get to the hammer. i can't even reach the hammer.

i think they should have the same overworld as in twilight princess, but change how the dungeons look. keep them in the same places, just change their appearance. I think it would be cool to add on to the overworld; adding a place like Termina and clock town would be a nice addition. i have been a Zelda fan for years. i have all the games (except the the two oracles and links awakening). I think they should create a sequal to twilight princess. that was a good game. like he said in his last video, dark zelda games are rare, but it would be cool to make another dark game.

Someone please reply to my comment!!!! I have a question that is driving me nuts! what is E3?????? is that the day or week or whatever is is when they talk about/release the new zelda game??? someone please post a comment sometime!! it would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!

    • TLoZmastr says:

hi!! well, e3 is a conference in which all the videogames companies get together to announce their new products such as new videogames (like zelda wii)or new consoles.

      • TLoZmastr says:

oh and its going to be in los angeles next tuesday at 9am and its going to transmited live in nintendo's web page

      • Austin zelda fan #1 says:

sweet! thanks for the tip!! can't wait till they release the game. ill make sure i watch it then.

    • Pechy says:

Same overword? That'd be even more rehash than the series is already.

  • Avenger 77 says:

This may sound like a stupid idea, but what if the girl on the concept art for zelda wii is your partner, but as the plotline developes, she turns out to be a villain?

    • Almo SSBB says:

interesting actually… but i dont see it happening

    • Drew says:

That Would Be Cool. Like She Comes Up With Some Sad Little Story And Makes Link Collect Some Artifacts(Scattered Throughout The World In Dungeons) Just To Double-Cross Him And Try To Control The Universe Or Something Like That.

      • Midna_Freak333 says:

i really like that idea! who knows, you may even be right because they've never gone in that sort of direction before, so this game could be the first! very imaginative :)

  • Mr. Big says:

I think that asshole gamer x is right i asked exactly 100 people at my town what they think about zelda and 89 of them said they dont like it and 21 of them said they like it and any one who didnt know what it was i didnt add them it was about 42 people who didnt know. you suck gamer ass!

  • Austin zelda fan #1 says:

zelda is one of nintendo's major game titles;the company makes tons of money off of these games. its a great series. anyone that doesn't like zelda shouldn't be on this website….that means you Mr. Big shot!

  • Alex_MM says:

    Well,Axle, I think that the hardest game is…..heh,I don't know, but it must be a 2d game,they are diffuicult(for me at least…)

  • TLoZmastr says:

the hardest game in all the series is majora's mask followed by zelda 2 :D

  • Ocarina Fan says:

AoL is hardest. What are you talking about MM? That one is easier than TP and MC.

  • Rachael says:

I'm not really excited about E3 itself. But I AM excited about Zelda Wii. I'm just not showing it. I'm too lazy and not very excitable.
The hardest game, out of what I've played, would have to be Link's Awakening. It was the first time I played an older Zelda game and I could barely get past the first five minuttes of gamepaly without having to go look for a walktrough.
I don't really want Midna or the Gossip Stones again. I really don't see a point in having Gossip Stones, sometimes they both feed you worthless information and tell you things that you don't care about. I especially don't see Midna coming back. Based on the end of Twilight Princess, I see it as impossible for her to come back

  • ben says:

"The Fall of Hyrule" i think is unlikely, because when you think about it, all of the recent titles have been constructed like "the legend of zelda <insert noun>" the fall of hyrule seems to just be too complicated of a name, if that makes any sense

    • gamer X says:

what about ocarina of time?thats just as long as fall of hyrule.so is adventure of link.and twilight princess is pretty close too.so is spirit tracks.

      • Mcnoodle says:

whoops sorry i made fun of gamer x in a post by pretending to be like him. i forgot to change the name.

  • @5Tweezyfan says:

Do you practice this in front of the mirror? I can tell you were iffy on including the "OMG ZELDA WII!"
    >_> Another great video, as always

  • gamer X says:

rateings going up evry day higher and higher beat that suckers and face it zelda sucks ass and you nerds know it and dont want to admit it and mr. bitch is right people dont have any intreast in the boreing piece of shit HA!

    • Mcnoodle says:

zeldas sold about 94 million copies when sonics only sold 36million copies.halos only sold 20 something million.and zelda wii is highly anticepated.and i just told my freind about zelda let him play it and now hes going to reccomend it to all his friends and buy them all so too bad for you.i bet only 1% of the people in the world hate zelda.your radio station isnt making a difference. face it you know im right you just cant admit it.we both know thats true.

  • Red_Link says:

Love the vids man, keep it up!
E3 I cannot wait for! Very soon the info will be ours…
Hardest game would have to be AoL. I spent so much time getting that stupid hammer.

Gossip stones I found cute. Just not that funny or needed. I would not want them to return.
I was never a big fan of Midna, so I wouldn't care, but be very surprised if she returned somehow.
Returning character? As long as its not Tingle….
DLC, meh.. the only thing I could really see would be extra dungeons that had no purpose, except to keep the player coming back and playing more. Sure, there could new or returning things like: Weapons, Instruments, Armor, and of course Music. Free to DL, however make them cost ALOT of rupees, making those worthwhile again. But I dont really see it happening.

  • Zeldafan163 says:

IMagine if Zelda Wii was for 2 players, P1 will be Link and P2 other character that have a special ability that can help Link by shortcuts, solve puzzles, and can be swaped at certain moments or places ex.(Dark Link-Ability;Swap between Dark and Light World-Swap;Dark Areas—–Epona-Ability:P2 controls Epona meanwhile LInk P1 shoots or whatever-Swap:When Link calls her or go to LON LON Ranch—–Midna-Crush players with her hair and gather twili energy to use the fused shadows, swap between Light world and Twilight and open portals)

  • Midna_Freak333 says:

i think the hardest game in the series, personally is between MM and OoT. I didnt really cre for the Gossip Stones, but I REALLY wanna see Midna again, though I dont think its possible :( .

  • Midna_Freak333 says:

and as for the songs, the first was the potion shop in hyrule castle town as an adult in OoT, dont know this next one, the third was the OoT gerudo valley "theme", the fourth was the WW title screen theme, the fifth was the WW pirates (Tetra's) theme, not sure on the sixth one (something from TP??), and last was something from MM. :)
