Happy Monday, Zelda fans! How about we kick off the work week with another exciting Zelda Dungeon Caption Contest? We’ve been highlighting nothing but Tears of the Kingdom screenshots since the game released last year, and I only just realized that we haven’t done enough to celebrate one of the game’s greatest achievements: Ultrahand. This unique ability let’s players create just about anything their imaginations can conceive, so the fact that so few Ultrahand creations have graced the contest is…

Whenever the prospect of a live-action Legend of Zelda movie is brought up, one of the first discussions will likely revolve around who could portray its iconic characters. Throughout the past 20 years, I’ve seen countless fan-castings, from on-the-nose suggestions such as Orlando Bloom as Link to some of the more recent proposals. Seriously, who first suggested John Cena as Tingle? That’s the very definition of inspired casting. Understandably, these fan-castings are largely comprised of big-name actors from the era…

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom continues the series’ legacy of strong, stirring musical compositions. Its music complements the player experience while heightening or relieving tension during gameplay and cutscenes. Some of its pieces are also just a joy to hear outside of the confines of the game and are already beloved by Zelda fans (see the winner of Zelda Dungeon’s 2024 Musical March Madness for a prime example). Composer and musician DarkNuck is one of those fans…

It’s time for the triumphant return of the best game in this Legend of Zelda business – The Zelda Cast’s Guess That Zelda Character! The premise is simple – we have 16 yes or no questions to guess a Zelda character from any game in the series! This time around, our competitors are “The Canadian Nightmare” Andy Spiteri, “The Rain Waker” Alasyn Eletha, and “Main Event” Jules Gia. Come play along with us and try not to pull your hair…

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a gorgeous game that has inspired many in the fan community to create their own takes on many of its iconic characters and landscapes. Some have produced amazing pieces of fan art, while others have created remixes and covers of the game’s music. No matter the medium, the creativity within the community shows how much fans admire and want to honor the masterpiece that is Tears of the Kingdom. One group…

Nintendo’s pride and joy with Tears of the Kingdom is evident. The Ultrahand mechanic is the focal point of many of the game’s physics engine conversations and hilarious fiascos. After putting hundreds of hours into the game, I began to think more critically about my experience with Ultrahand and how it relates to Nintendo’s mission of creating the most sandbox-like Zelda game to date. This discussion requires a small disclaimer. I advocate that once a game gets into a player’s…

One of the most thrilling parts of my favorite Zelda games is the iconic moment where Link retrieves what is known as the “Blade of Evil’s Bane,” or sometimes the “Sword that Seals the Darkness,” or its most common name, the Master Sword. Link has a whole bunch of different weapons in his arsenal in every entry in the series. Sometimes those weapons are even other magical swords, but there is something about a Zelda game that includes the Master…

The year is 2024. Video games are pushing graphical and technological boundaries, constantly broadening our perspective on what the medium is capable of. New hardware and AI technology open the door for new possibilities as we creep ever closer to games that are indistinguishable from real life. Amidst this sea of innovation, a new Game Boy game was released. No, I didn’t say a Game Boy-inspired game, but a real, bona fide Game Boy game. Developed by Pie For Breakfast…

In my household Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth has taken over our main TV since its release in February. My husband guided my way through the original about 15 years ago and while it won’t replace my love for all things The Legend of Zelda, I respect Final Fantasy VII as a game and as a great example of deep storytelling. Compared to Zelda, it has a way more complicated, intricate plot that takes several twists and turns. Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, and crew…

Video game archivist Mr. Talida of Keshi Corner has been hard at work preserving vintage video game merchandise, particularly “keshi gomu” rubber figures which were released in Japan throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Using 3D printing technology, Mr. Talida creates 3D scans of the figures, which are then uploaded free to the public so that anyone with a 3D printer and the right materials can have recreations of these retro figures for themselves. Previous scans have included Bandai’s keshi figures…
